Active & fun

We all know that exercise is important for health. Yet the facts that movement encourages creativity, increases self-confidence, reduces anxiety, improves memory and productivity, quickly blow our minds when the Lazy Beast tackles us. But there is nothing better than going out in nature in the company we take with us or meet on a trip.
Let’s indulge in one of the most therapeutic animals the world knows and learn thousands of secrets of horses (Did you know that horses doze while standing? That their hooves are made of the same material as human nails? That they have the largest eye of all land mammals and their ear is made up as many as 16 muscles? …).
Only half an hour away from genuine contact with the animal, genuine contact with adrenaline awaits us. More or less wild, whatever we choose in the embrace of Pohorje. Not relevant. It is important to socialize, have fun and do something for ourselves. The delicacies of Styrian flavors will take care of the stomachs.

Assembly in Maribor, at the bus station and drive along the old road through Maribor to Pesnica. Meeting with the guide, summary of the daily program.

The town of Pesnica near Maribor, today a local municipal center, has only officially existed since 1945, although it had been called a post office and a railway station for a long time. The young place was formed and expanded near the newly built railway line in the mid-19th century. From the poetic railway station, Slovenska Gorica apples were transported to Imperial Vienna in large quantities, which confirms that the railway was a very important development point for the place. The current Pesnica near Maribor combines parts of the settlements of Jelenče and Ranca. In recent times, the settlement along the busy Maribor-Šentilj road has expanded considerably, but still retains the characteristics of a rugged and sprawling village. From the already mentioned road, Pesnica near Maribor reaches both adjacent ridges. On the eastern hill it passes into Jelenče, and in the west on the highest peak it meets Ranca. After 1945, many residential houses were built, and Pesnica near Maribor is becoming interesting for housing investments in recent times.

A fragmented estate predominates in the wider poetic area. Smaller landowners had to look for employment in industry in nearby Maribor and some also in Sladki Vrh. Natural conditions in agriculture do not enable a decent livelihood, so complementary and other activities are being developed. Opportunities for employment in the place are small. In the past, water supply, especially drinking water, has been a major problem. Most of Pesnica spreads along the main road and leans on the western slope of the Cirknica valley. The reclaimed bottom of the valley is partly moist. The settlement became independent after 1945, having previously been an integral part of Rance. In 1971, Pesnica near Maribor had 16.4%, and in 1991 about 5.5% of the rural population. After 1980, several residential houses and public buildings were built. More than 10% of the active population is employed outside agriculture.

9:45 – 13:00

Arrival at the equestrian association Pesnica, where we are taken over by experienced members of the association, coaches and riding teachers. We will get to know the habits of animals, ride in the arena (even beginners) and in the field. After sports activities and fun games, we will refresh ourselves with local delicacies at the picnic.

The Pesnica Equestrian Association was founded in 1990. After its establishment, they first approached the professional training of staff, mainly through seminars of the Equestrian Association and the Equestrian Academy. Soon, however, they also began with riding schools and also prepared horses for competitions.
In learning, they place great emphasis on veterinary medicine, horse psychology, and dressage. Without this broader knowledge of the horse, the student also cannot pass the final exam.
The members of the association gather mainly out of love for horses and for socializing, both when riding in the arena and, of course, preferably during one-day and multi-day field rides. The society has about 100 members and 20 horses in the stable. They are engaged in riding school, schooling and re-education of horses, field riding, tourist riding, equestrian games, horse breeding, therapeutic riding. They offer boarding houses for horses and a picnic area.

13:00 – 17:00

After the picnic, we will drive under Pohorje and take care of our fitness with a short hike to the adrenaline park.

In the adrenaline park on Pohorje, an adrenaline guide will be waiting for us, who will show us how to safely drive crazy people on a giant swing, or climb a giant tower. With your annual sled, you will descend indefinitely to the foot of Pohorje.

At 17.00 we will climb to the triangular clearing – Trikotna jasa (those who lose strength will be able to use the chairlift). The triangular clearing lies above the Arena Hotel next to the altitude polygon, where there is a beautiful view of the city of Maribor and the surrounding wine-growing hills of northeastern Slovenia. It is an extremely popular hiking spot. Anyone who would like to embrace Maribor and Styria should just look at the valley.

In cottage at Trikotna jasa you will be spoiled with an early dinner, suitable for sports adventures (Pohorski pisker and homemade apple pie). If you still have the strength, expect a sunset at the top of Pohorje, where you can climb on foot (a good hour’s walk from Trikotna jasa onwards) or by gondola.20:30 -…Assembly under the gondola and departure back to Maribor to the bus station.
